Paul Joseph Manley,'s Obituary
Paul “Joe” Joseph Manley Sr.( Warrant Officer, USMC, Ret.), 88, of Davidson, died October 18, 2012 at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House. He was born on August 24, 1924 in Scioto County, Ohio to the late Conner and Agnes Manley. He joined the US Marine Corps in 1943, was a veteran of the Iwo Jima invasion, earning the Bronze Star with Valor and Purple Heart, the Korean War and Viet Nam. He retired in 1968 after 25 years of service to his Country. Joe’s second career was with the City of Charlotte Public Works Department, retiring in 1986 after 17 years. Joe was also a very active member of the American Red Cross Disaster Team, serving in Florida after Hurricane Andrew, in Missouri during the Cape Girardeau floods, in New York during the Corning floods and California after the Northridge earthquake.
Survivors include his wife Clara Poole “Boots” Manley; sons, Paul Jr. and wife Jean of Mooresville, Todd and wife Caroline of San Francisco, and Conner and wife Elizabeth of Atlanta; brother, John Dean Manley of Catonsville, Md.; grandchildren, Christopher Wade, Scott Joseph, Brooks Justin and Amber Nicole and great-grandsons; Cole Joseph and Briar Joseph.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, Stanley County Chapter.
A service to celebrate Joe’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 1pm in the chapel of James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Drive, Huntersville. A reception will follow in the James Funeral Home Community Room. Burial with military rites will be private at the Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
