Peggy Way's Obituary
Peggy Swift Way, of Huntersville, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, February 24th. She was born on December 23, 1949, in Caswell County, North Carolina, to Lottie and Clyde Swift.
After graduation, Peggy worked for AT&T. She later married her late husband, Richard “Rick” Way, and moved to New Jersey and Colorado before returning to North Carolina in 2019.
Reading was one of Peggy’s greatest passions, along with her deep love of cats. Throughout her lifetime, she shared her home with five special feline companions—Gateway, Abner, Muffin, Misty, and Lucy. Peggy also had an extensive collection of cat collectibles and was often dressed in cat-themed attire from head to toe.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Novant Health Heart & Vascular Institute of Huntersville for the compassionate care they provided to Peggy, demonstrating that the heart is more than just a muscle—it is the source of love, compassion, and kindness. Special thanks to Angelica Muniz, Marina Riggio and Randy Larrimore for their devoted service and friendship, and to her neighbors who kept a watchful eye and were always ready to assist.
In addition to her late husband, Rick, Peggy was recently predeceased in death by her sister, Sonja Swift McCarn. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Nancy Platt, and her husband, Eric of Idaho, grandson Chad and his wife Michelle and their children, Zoe and Eli of Idaho; her step-niece, Theresa Bechtold and her husband Philip of Cornelius, North Carolina; nephew Harris Frey of New Mexico; and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
A gathering to celebrate Peggy’s life will be held on Saturday, March 14, from 2:00–4:00 PM at 14333 Hugh Dixon Way, Huntersville, NC 28078. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the nonprofit organization Cats of Davidson to support the building project of a Cat Cafe and rescue facility in Cornelius by using the link below or by mail to Cats of Davidson, 513 Westside Terrace, Davidson, NC 28036.
