I knew Phyllis as a friend and member of the Condo Association Board on which she and I both served. She was a loyal, capable and dedicated member of the Board, and voluntarily established a community newsletter, which the members of our community relied on for information. Over time, she expanded her contributions to make hospitality and welcoming calls on new residents, and was active in many other ways. She was a skillful, enthusiastic and formidable bridge player.

My fondest memories of her are the floral garden she planted on the wall adjacent to their condo. Their colorful and constant blooms were a bright spot for all who passed by, and they are emblematic of her life and her indomitable spirit. She enriched the lives of those who knew her. My wife and I were privileged to know her and Chuck, and her children Lisa and Eric. Heaven is now richer for her presence.

My sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the family of Phyllis Carlson. Phyllis worked with me for many years at Church of Epiphany. She not only cared for the gardens and plants, but she would help me in others ways. Most memorable is the evening she drove me to the doctor when I learned that my biopsy proved positive for cancer. I could not have asked for a better companion to be with me in hearing that news. She did not tell me how to think or how to act. She simply was present to me in the experience of being told this reality. She was that way in all she did. She had a phenomenal gift of presence, and I pray that you, her family, feel that presence inside you because it was she who gave you the very life you have.
