Richard Pope's Obituary
Richard Pope of Venice FL (formerly Huntersville NC) lost his courageous 10 year battle with Metastatic Prostate Cancer on Wednesday April 26, 2023.
Richard is survived by his wife Debbie, daughter Shannon Lail (Mike), and son Jason Brown (Beth). Three beautiful grandchildren Lindsey, Amelia and Silas. Sister Theresa Pritchard (Bill), brother Kenneth Pope (Emily), sisters in law Jerry Pope and Jean Pope. Countless nephews, nieces and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leon Pope and Lee Shierlock Pope Browning, brothers Edward and Thomas Pope.
Richard was born and raised in Charleston SC and proudly served in the Air Force 355th Tactical Fighter Wing (Takhli) 41st Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron and had a very successful career with Xerox Corporation as a Senior Service Representative.
Richard was a professing Christian and had the opportunity to serve The Lord and belong to different fellowships throughout his life. His devotion for his wife, children, and grandchildren were immeasurable.
He was a life long RC model airplane enthusiast belonging to several local RC clubs and enjoyed every possible event at the famous “Triple Tree Aerodrome” Woodruff SC. Richard and Debbie had a passion for traveling in their recreational vehicle. Their adventures included spending time with family and friends. Richard loved people and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Military rites will be held Thursday May 11, 2023 at 11 AM at Sarsota National Cemetery with Rev Mike Hudson officiating - 9810 State Road 72 Sarsota FL 34241.
A Celebration Of Life Service will be held Saturday June 3, 2023 at 2 PM at Huntersville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Doug Ferguson officiating - 14416 South Old Statesville Road Huntersville NC 28078.
