Rita Lucy Brown's Obituary
Rita L. Brown, 85, of Cornelius, NC and Fountain Valley, CA, went home to be with the Lord on February 15, 2024. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by the love and prayers of family and friends. She was born in Beaver Falls, PA on December 14, 1938 and was the youngest daughter of the late Louis and Mary Grace (Fazio) Camp.
She grew up in a loving Italian Catholic family. Alongside four brothers and three sisters, Rita learned the values of resilience, compassion, and family unity from an early age. She faced life's challenges with grace and determination, guided by her unwavering faith.
After graduating from High School, Rita married the love of her life, Daniel Brown, with whom she shared over 64 years of love and companionship. Together, they raised five children: Maria, Gena, Chris, Tim, and Danny. Rita's greatest joy was her family, and she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to their care and nurturing.
In the early 1960s, Rita and Dan started a grand adventure when they moved across the country to Southern California. They eventually bought their first home in the new community of Fountain Valley. It was here they settled down to raise their 2 daughters, and later on added 3 boys to the mix. Rita was a dedicated housewife and an active member of her church, where she found her passion for working with children. This led her to many years of service in children’s ministry at her local Community Bible Study group. Here she formed lifelong friendships and touched the lives of many children along the way.
After Dan's retirement from Southern California Edison, Rita and Dan opened a new chapter in their life that moved them back across the country to Cornelius, NC. Together they were finally able to build their beautiful dream home. Surrounded by the beauty of nature, Rita found peace and contentment, especially over these last couple of years, in the love of her family, and the cherished memories they shared.
Rita will be remembered for her boundless love, kindness, hospitality, and unwavering faith. She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Rita is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mary Grace Camp, and her siblings: Nick (Alda) Camp, Jimmy (Donna) Camp, Willie Camp, Louis (Dagne) Camp, Antoinette (John) Piccolo, Philomena (Fanny) (Pete) Costanza, and Mary (Robert) Damassa.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel Brown; her children: Maria (Michael) Warenski, Gena (Michael) Cook, Chris Brown, Tim (Tracy) Brown, and Danny (Misheal) Brown; her 11 grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends who will cherish her memory forever.
A celebration of Rita’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078. Following the services there will be a reception held at the family home, 10108 Squires Way, Cornelius, NC.
