Robert Hoffman's Obituary
Robert “Bobby” J. Hoffman, 68, of Huntersville, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House.
Bobby was a native of Roselle, NJ, the son of Robert and Jane Hoffman. He graduated from The United States Military Academy at West Point. Bobby retired as an Airborne, Ranger, Special Forces Lieutenant Colonel with 22 years of service in the US Army. He was a decorated combat veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a physical fitness instructor at West Point, was the Director of Training at the Soldiers Physical Fitness Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison, and commanded the 4th Ranger Training Battalion at Fort Benning, Georgia.
After he retired from the Army, he worked as a law enforcement fitness consultant. While working as a consultant, he authored the book, “Fit for Duty,” which serves as a fitness training guide for law enforcement agencies throughout the country.
He enjoyed working-out, kayaking, disc golf, biking, reading, and most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. Bobby was an outstanding athlete. In 1965 he was a member of the Roselle Catholic High School winning distance medley and two-mile relay teams at the Penn Relay. He was an avid fan of the Davidson basketball team.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara Hoffman, their children; Jeffrey Hoffman of Champaign, IL, Jessica Hoffman and fiancé, Ted Schrader of Zionsville, IN, siblings; Gina Gilcrest (George), John Hoffman (Glory), Cathy (Cindy), Grace Malone, and Jane Vecchione (Craig), and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the James Funeral Home in Huntersville on Tuesday, August 2 from 4-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at St. Mark Catholic Church in Huntersville.
Interment with honors will be held at a later date at The West Point Military Cemetery.
