Robert Widenhouse's Obituary
Robert Howard Widenhouse, Jr. (Rob/Rob Paper), 55, died at home after a brief illness on November 17, 2023. He was born in Charlotte NC on August 29, 1968. Rob was educated in the Mecklenburg County public schools.
His son Taj Widenhouse, father Robert Widenhouse, Sr., sister Catherin Meredith, and cousin Turner Knight predeceased Rob. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Candie Leyvas and Pressly Beaver, best friend Patrice O’Neill Edelman, stepsisters Roxie Neal, LaVonne Pope, and Suzie Pope, aunts Brenda Knight and Shirley Fesperman, and cousins Kim Houston, Kelly Hebb, Marygrace Rowe, and MacGregor Knight.
Rob was a talented, self-taught singer/songwriter who from a young age performed throughout the United States, including the US Virgin Islands. He gained many friends and fans along the way and he loved his work. In later years, as a single parent, Rob’s career was slowed or put on hold to care for his special son Taj, who needed constant care.
Rob Paper, as he was known professionally, was a presence on stage. His delivery was a smooth and unique “island vibe.” His sweet spirit and beautiful music will be missed by so many. The next time you attend a live music event, tip the musicians generously in remembrance of Rob. They work hard for the money.
