Don,
More than half a century ago, while we were holding a memorial service in Vietnam—for a sailor who was with our Special Forces team—the Navy Chaplain read a poem written by Henry Van Dyke. I cannot remember the title or the exact words to that poem, but I recall these words for they describe to me what that poem spoke of. No words can ever replace Roberta’s presence at your side, but knowing she is in a safe harbor—free from pain—is our only comfort.
Your friend,
Art Reed
Gone From Our Sight
Losing a loved one is like watching a ship as it leaves the port sailing onto the open sea. To those watching from that shore, the ship becomes smaller and smaller as it slowly fades into the distance, until it is finally seen no more.
But on the other side—on another shore—someone else is watching this ship grow bigger and bigger as it approaches Him, sailing into the safety of His secure port.
God has taken Roberta to the safety of His secure port, and you can rest easy knowing she is in safe hands—in a safe port.
So sorry to hear about Bobbie. Had a lot of fun playing golf with her. There are a lot of good memories. Prayers are with you.

Quite a surprise - and not fun either - to hear this sad news. Bobbie sent me wonderful emails and succinct comments over the past years which I so enjoyed, and will miss. So Don - take care of yourself during this very sad time. God Bless and comfort you.
So sorry to be sending this kind of message after enjoying Bobbie's and your company at our LSHS reunion this past summer. Over a number of years Bobbie sent me clever jokes and some pertinent comments that we shared over political subjects. I will miss these emails, and I'm so glad we 12 had a chance to renew friendship at our reunion. Don't forget to take care of yourself Don!!
