Ronald Bishop's Obituary
Ronald Edward Bishop, 16026 Lakeside Loop Lane, Cornelius, NC 28032 passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021.
Ronald was a native Stockton Spring, Maine and after many years in Maine and Vermont and moved to North Carolina in 1995 for retirement. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Ron served in the military for 28 years, becoming a Colonel in the Army and served several years in Germany. He graduated from the University of Maine and
earned a Master of Science in Management from the American College in Bryn Mawr, PA and earned the certifications of CLU and CHfC. He held many positions with National Life of Vermont Insurance Agency, becoming Vice President of Marketing before his retirement in 1991. After his retirement he spent 3 years with an international company, traveling to 27 separate countries sharing himself and his talents with local populations. After his move to North Carolina in 1995, Ron became instrumental in helping to build and support Our Towns Habitat for Humanity in Cornelius, serving the entire north-Mecklenburg area. He served on the Board there and spent his Sunday evenings planning and scheduling the volunteer crews for the following week. Continuing his commitment, Ron made 5 international trips to build Habitat homes in places like Singapore and South Africa. He travelled to Guatemala for 10 consecutive years, building homes with and for local people to improve the economic circumstances of families and communities in that country. The Ronald E. Bishop Leadership Award was established to be given to an individual who exhibited outstanding leadership for Our Towns Habitat for Humanity. Ron had a strong commitment to caring for others and worked to support young students in Nicaragua in completing their educations through the Rainbow Network. His example inspired those around him to be of greater service to communities near and far.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Neil S. Bishop and Doris Bickmore Bishop, his brother Paul Bishop, sister Margaret Webb and his first wife, Priscilla Bishop.
Mr. Bishop is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lorna M. Bishop, his children Rhonda Wood of Stockton Springs, ME, Candy Slack of Rutland, VT and Roy Bishop of Colchester, VT as well as 4 granddaughters- Haley, Hannah, Maddie and Emily, and one great granddaughter, Sloan.
He is also survived by his brother Jake Bishop of Hadley, MA. Ron is also loved by his wife’s three children, David Venderbush of New York, NC, Jennifer Lyons of Belgium, WI and Kristin Venderbush or Portland, OR.
Memorial service will be held at on Wednesday, March 31st at 7:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 148 Lazy Lane, Mooresville. All are welcome.
