Roy T. Fortner's Obituary
Roy Taylor Fortner, 95, of Huntersville died September 18, 2018 at the Hefner VA Medical Center. He was born in Cabarrus County to the late James and Naomi Fortner.
Roy served in the Army Air Force during WWII flying 50 combat missions in the European theater and in the Air Force during the Korean War. In 1961 he bought Huntersville Ford and ran it successfully until he retired in1982. One of his prize possessions was his Cessna that he used to fly friends and family around the country.
He is preceded in death by his wives, Alta Mae Baker Fortner and Doris Hook Fortner as well as his siblings, Clifford, Sloan, Judy, Paul, Lois and Ruby.
Survivors include his son James Fortner of Boomer; daughters, Myra Jane Skinner of Deep Gap and Elissa Fortner Huffstetler of Charlotte and son-in-law Chuck Huffstetler; grandchildren, Jonas Skinner, Drew Skinner, Adam Huffstetler and Emily Biggs; great-grandchildren, Kara, Jacob, Isabel, Charlie, and Lila.
Memorials may be made to Hefner VA Hospice, 1601 Brenner Ave. Salisbury, NC 28144.
A funeral service will be held at 2PM Tuesday, September 25 at James Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 1-2 PM prior to the service. A private burial will be held at Beth Page Presbyterian Church.
