Samuel Derek Brown's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Samuel “Derek” Brown, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025 at the age of 73 at his home in Denver. He was born on March 17, 1952 in Durham, NC to Sam and Dottie Brown.
Derek was a humble man whose presence brought joy and laughter to everyone around him. His warm smile, quick wit, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him. A devoted family man, Derek cherished time spent with his wife and two daughters, filling their lives with humor, love, and unforgettable memories.
A hardworking and skilled electrical contractor, Derek took great pride in his craft. His dedication and strong work ethic earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
Outside of work, Derek enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved playing golf, fishing on the lake, and watching football on the weekends. Nothing brought him more pride, however, than cheering from the sidelines as he watched his kids and grandchildren play sports—a proud and loyal supporter at every game.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years Judy Mozeley Brown; daughters, Laura Maultsby and husband John of Stanley and Emily McEwen and husband Max of Charlotte; siblings, Samra Robertson (Don) and Richard “Speed” Brown (Leslie); and grandchildren, Makenzie, Katelyn, Ashton, John, Harper and Logan; and sister-in-law, Jennie M. Simmons and brother-in-law, Steve Mozeley. He was preceded in death by his brother Alec Brown.
Though he is no longer with us, Derek’s legacy of kindness, laughter, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A graveside service will take place at 11 AM Tuesday, September 2 at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park, 7315 Pleasant Grove Road, Charlotte, NC with a visitation to follow at Pleasant Grove Farm, 7132 Pleasant Grove Road.
James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family.
