Scott and I would always work out a very specific game plan before a sales meeting with a customer. Most often the strategies were elaborately scripted good cop/bad cop if we had to discuss a price increase, or one of us would act extremely naïve and ask a ton of questions while the other would take notes hoping for an intelligence leak to allow us to build a better quote. It always started really professional...
My favorite memories, that I will always cherish, are the ones where we would game plan and instead of building out a rock solid, professional sales strategy, we would spiral out of control and finish reciting the sales scene from Tommy Boy, aka the desktop demo scene, "here comes the meat wagon" and go into the meeting wiping away tears of laughter. I'm sure some of our customers thought we were nuts!
Scott worked so hard for so many people. He showed so much gratitude to so many people. He cared about his customers and fought for their success. He loved the thrill of the hunt in sales. He excelled at gaining rapport with strangers and thrived at uncomfortable situations using humor and humility to disarm the toughest characters. He loved his conservative politics and loved Trump. We laughed so much over the last decade and we fought like brothers so many times too. We never held grudges because we loved each other and knew we both wanted the same results.
Most of all he loved his kids and wife. He was so proud of them! I'm so very sad he is gone but I am so happy that I got to work with Scott for so long. He was a great man and great friend - I will miss him, but I will always have our Tommy Boy memories. RIP Big Guy.
