Shirley Jane McClure's Obituary
Shirley Jane Nixon McClure, 91, of Charlotte, NC, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 30, 2024.
She was born in Mecklenburg County in 1933 to Sid and Florence Nixon. Shirley, who was better known as “Maw Maw”, loved the Lord, her church and family. She enjoyed working in her garden and cooking. She was well known for pound cakes and home-made biscuits. She was a beautician in the Oakdale Community for over 50 years. Our “Maw Maw” will always be remembered for her sweetness and kindness to everyone.
Shirley was an active lifelong member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and Madeline Tyson Covenant Class.
Shirley was preceded by her parents; husband, Wayne McClure; daughters, Kathy Bannister, Sherrie Kidd; son-in-law, Randy Bannister; brothers, Marvin Nixon, Boyce Nixon; sisters Margie Robinson and Vivian Kiser.
Survivors include her sons, Steve McClure (Maria) and Ray McClure (Trena); grandchildren, Brandi Risley (Korey), Jason Bannister (Ashley), Christopher McClure, Dustin McClure (Rachael), Jennifer Costanzo (Drew), Carrie Napolitano and nine great-grandchildren as well as many other loving family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery fund or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
