Sid Abramsky's Obituary
Mr. Sidney “Sid” Malven Abramsky, 94, of Huntersville passed away May 25, 2024. Sid was a native of Poughkeepsie, NY and was born May 21, 1930, to the late Jacob and Miriam Abramsky and he was the youngest of their five children.
Sid was a member of the Congregation Emanuel in Statesville. He was a marine serving in the Korean War. In the mid 1980’s he retired from IBM as an engineer. He had a love for trains and cherished traveling by RV over the years with his wife Pearl and their pets Pepe and Lucinda. They spent a lot of time at Briarcliffe RV Resort in North Myrtle Beach, SC where they made many loyal friends from all over the country. He was a patron of the Eastern Star, volunteered at the local library for many years, was an active member of the Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones award, he served on several local boards including the Zoning Board and the 911 Advisory Board, he was a strong advocate for the Huntersville Police Department, he was instrumental in bringing the Novant Presbyterian Hospital to Huntersville. For his contributions to the community, in 2015 he was presented the Key to Huntersville by his amazing friend and former Mayor of Huntersville, the late Jill Swain.
Sid was preceded in death by his siblings and his loving wife of 64 years, Pearl Jean Abramsky.
The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm Tuesday May 28 and 9am to 10am Wednesday May 29. A graveside service will be held at 11am Wednesday May 29 at Oakwood Cemetery at 114 Oakwood Drive Statesville. After the service, a brief gathering will be hosted by Congregation Emanuel at 206 Kelly Street Statesville.
In lieu of flowers, donations and memorials may be made to Congregation Emanuel in Statesville.
