Sidney "Rick" Carrick Gambill's Obituary
Sidney Carrick Gambill, 80, better known as Rick or Pop to those he held dear, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025.
Rick was born in New Rochelle, NY in 1944, and moved to North Carolina as a teen. Both of his parents were native to Ashe County, NC, and he spent many summers working the family farm in Chestnut Hill, the place he called his true home. He lived and worked in many parts of NC including Raleigh, Andrews, Asheville, Winston Salem, North Wilkesboro, Jefferson, and Mooresville.
Rick attended North Carolina State University and earned his MBA from East Carolina University. He was a proud TKE. It was while at NCSU that he met and married his beautiful wife, Sandie. Together, they had two sons, Todd and Robert.
After his family, his greatest passion was racing. He spent four decades as a race car driver, winning many races and making close friends at the track. He was a founding member of FAT Racing, and one of the creative minds who promoted the Chimney Rock Hill Climb.
He spent much of his career as a banker, retiring in his 50s to pursue work promoting racing, founding Carrick PR, and boasting the Craftsman Truck Racing Series as a client.
Mr. Gambill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sandra Deaton Gambill of Mooresville, NC, sons Sidney Todd (Jeannie) of Greenwood, SC and Robert Scott (Kerri) of Huntersville, NC, grandchildren; Carrick, Embree, Avery, Anna, Reeves, Sawyer, and Brice, and his beloved dog, Bella. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Branscome Gambill and Myrtle Rose Reeves Gambill of Ashe Co., NC, and his sister, Billie Moore Gambill of Kingsport, TN.
Rick will be committed to the earth in a private service in Ashe County.
