Susan Stewart's Obituary
Susan Jane Southern Stewart, 72, of Cornelius went to be with the Lord on May 16, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on July 15, 1943 in Stokes County, NC to the late Hilary and Sara Lee Southern. Mrs. Stewart spent her career as a dedicated elementary school teacher. She retired from C.M.S., with the last school she taught at being Long Creek Elementary. She went on to teach for many years at SouthLake Christian Academy after her retirement from C.M.S. Mrs. Stewart had a zest and love of life that was contagious. Her smile was one that has been imprinted on the hearts of hundreds of students and parents. A member of Grace Covenant Church, she was a deeply committed Christian who loved Jesus with all of her spirit, soul and body. The light of Jesus shone in her wherever she went. Even during her last days, she was ministering in the hospital to those around her.
Survivors include her husband William Stewart; her son, Chip Stewart and wife Angie of Cornelius; the loves of her life, her grandchildren, Paige and Lilli; as well as her brother David of King, NC.
Per her request, no funeral service will be held.
In her honor, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
